Alistair Overeem pokes fun at Junior dos Santos during UFC 155

Before Junior Dos Santos' bout with Cain Velasquez was over, another opponent was poking fun of the former champ. Alistair Overeem was scheduled to fight dos Santos in May, but was suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission because of high testosterone levels before the fight.

Overeem tweeted:

Ouch! Though Overeem has a beef with dos Santos, he has to get through Antonio Silva on Feb. 2 first. Overeem applied for a license this week. He will have to appear before a hearing on Jan. 8 before he is approved.

If dos Santos and Overeem do end up fighting, it won't be for the title. Velasquez beat dos Santos in a one-sided, five-round decision on Saturday night at UFC 155.

Eric Chua : Life, Business and Real Estate in Singapore ? Tips And ...

There are a lot of reasons many people invest in the world of commercial real estate. But these reasons must have something to do with a basic knowledge you have acquired about this particular business. The more information you have, the greater your earnings will be through your commercial real estate dealings. Below, you?ll find some great tips to help you start your commercial real estate career, or to add to your already wide breadth of knowledge.

When you begin to invest, it is wise to only have one investment in mind at a time. Pick out just one type of property to begin with and then give it all you?ve got. You want to be an ace investor in one property type rather than just OK at many different types.

Only work with companies that are sincerely interested in the success of their customers. If you don?t, you might wind up suffering over the long haul for an otherwise preventable error.

TIP! Prior to negotiating with the lease of your commercial real estate, try to decrease anything that could be a default as you can. The less behaviors you have that constitute default, the less likely it is that you?ll have to deal with a tenant?s default.

Think bigger when you are investing in commercial properties. Don?t let fear of managing a large building stop you from making the best investment possible. In reality, there?s no difference between managing a small number of units and a large number. Both sizes of buildings need commercial financing, but buildings with more units are cheaper per unit.

When you are setting up your home office or commercial property for selling purposes, consider the Asian art of feng shui. De-cluttering and open spaces are two key tenets, both of which are attractive to buyers.

Look out for any motivated sellers. You have to look for them, particularly the sellers who are willing to sell for less than the market price. Nothing happens until you come upon the deal made available by a very motivated seller.

TIP! There are different types of commercial real estate brokers. There are agents who only represent tenants and there are full-service brokers who work with both tenants and landlords.

Interest Rates

Be wary of fluctuating interest rates, as these can greatly affect not only your initial financing, but also your long-term investment. It?s completely unpredictable how the markets will be today or tomorrow, let alone a week or month from now, leaving investors vulnerable to changes in interest rates. Think about this when you are out shopping for a new property. Consider what your long-term options are.

Before you make a decision on which real estate broker to use, see how they negotiate. Ask about their training and experience. You can also double check that their methods are ethical, and that they have success in finding and negotiating the optimum deals. Ask for examples of successful and unsuccessful past negotiations.

TIP! Locate a lender prior to putting in an offer for a commercial property. Make a list of all of the most expert lenders locally.

Commercial rental buildings should feature sturdy construction and simple details. Tenants will be more likely to rent space in this type of building, as it looks taken care of. Not are the buildings more sturdy, there will be less maintenance issues for the owner and the tenant.

There are many websites available that offer information to investors; therefore, learn all you can before searching for commercial property. Learning is an ongoing process, and you can never know enough.

Pest Control

TIP! When hiring a real estate agent, read the disclosures completely before signing a contract with a realtor. It is important that you realize that you may be entering a dual agency transaction.

Bugs and rodents are always looking to ruin your property, so factor pest control into your business strategy when renting commercial property. It is a good idea to consult your rental agent for information on pest control policies, especially if the area your property is located in is known for a high population of insects and rodents.

When you write your letters of intent, start off by dealing with the larger issues, then move on to the smaller ones later. This lets you get the bigger issues out of the way first and makes small issues simpler to complete.

Compile a number of people to partner with financially. These can be professional lenders, friends and family. This will allow you to ascertain cash flow. Look into and set up contracts that offer you one of two options, either one that gives you an actual percentage from the income of the property you are dealing with, or fixed interest rate.

TIP! Keep in mind that a property will only last so long. Ignoring a property or deciding to wait too long can cause this lifetime to come to an unexpected end, especially if you aren?t willing to pay the fees for proper upkeep over the period of time.

You can save money on repair costs while cleaning up the property. First off, you may not be liable for cleanup expenses if you do not hold ownership interest, but if you do, you are on the hook. It can be incredibly expensive to dispose of waste that is not environmentally friendly. Get a report from an environmental assessment company. While these services are expensive, they may save you money in the long run.

Establish the needs of your business before looking at buildings. You should be aware of the exact specifications you will need for your office space. While prices are low, invest in a larger property that offers good growth potential.

Location is essential to the commercial real estate. For example, consider the surrounding area and local neighborhoods. Don?t forget to check out similar areas as well, in order to see how other neighborhoods are growing economically. The ideal location is situated in an area that can sustain economic growth for many years to come.

TIP! Thoroughly tour every potential property. Think about having a contractor as a companion to help evaluate the property.

Real Estate

Develop an eagle eye for excellent deals. Real estate professionals have an easier time finding deals. Their secret entails that they have an exit strategy, meaning that they know when to walk away from a deal. To be a professional real estate investor, you need to learn how to determine the risks inherent in every investment. Professionals can figure out the hidden costs of an investment, such as the need for extensive repairs, and only invest in properties that help them reach their financial goals.

As previously mentioned, you may want to invest in the commercial real estate market for a variety of reasons. However, no matter what your reason may be, you need to be knowledgeable about the subject. If you apply the advice you learned in this article to your own commercial real estate endeavors, you will be well on your way towards maximizing your profits.

TIP! Residential property transactions are much less intricate and protracted than are commercial transactions. Keep in mind though that the arduous nature of this process is just a stepping stone to better dividends yielded from the hours and money you invest.

Death of India rape victim stirs anger, promises of action

NEW DELHI/SINGAPORE (Reuters) - A woman whose gang rape provoked protests and rare national debate about violence against women in India died from her injuries on Saturday, prompting promises of action from a government that has struggled to respond to public outrage.

The unidentified 23-year-old medical student suffered a brain injury and massive internal damage in the December 16 attack and died in hospital in Singapore where she had been taken for treatment.

Protesters rallied peacefully in the capital New Delhi and other cities across the country to keep the pressure on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government to get tougher on crimes against women. That was in contrast to the pitched battles protesters fought with police last weekend.

The six suspects held in connection with the attack on the student on a New Delhi bus were charged with murder following her death, police said. The maximum penalty for murder is death.

Authorities, worried about the reaction to the news of her death, deployed thousands of policemen, closed 10 metro stations and banned vehicles from some main roads in the heart of New Delhi, where demonstrators have converged since the attack to demand improved women's rights.

Despite efforts to cordon off the city centre, more than 1,000 people gathered at two locations. Some protesters shouted for justice, others for the death penalty for the rapists.

Most sex crimes in India go unreported, many offenders go unpunished, and the wheels of justice turn slowly, according to social activists who say that successive governments have done little to ensure the safety of women.

Political leaders vowed steps to correct "shameful social attitudes" towards women in the world's biggest democracy.

"The need of the hour is a dispassionate debate and inquiry into the critical changes that are required in societal attitudes," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in a statement.

"I hope that the entire political class and civil society will set aside narrow sectional interests and agenda to help us all reach the end that we all desire - making India a demonstrably better and safer place for women to live in."

The woman, beaten, raped and thrown out of a moving bus, had been flown to Singapore in a critical condition by the Indian government on Thursday.

"She was courageous in fighting for her life for so long against the odds but the trauma to her body was too severe for her to overcome," Kelvin Loh, chief executive officer of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore said in a statement announcing her death from multiple organ failure.

The Indian government has chartered an aircraft to fly the student's body back to India, along with members of her family, T.C.A. Raghavan, the Indian high commissioner to Singapore, told reporters.

The body was taken from the hospital to a Hindu undertaker in Singapore and hours later, lying in a gold an yellow coffin selected by Indian diplomats, the body was driven in a hearse to the airport.

"DETERMINATION"

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in the northern Indian city of Lucknow. In Hyderabad, in southern India, a group of women marched to demand severe punishment for the rapists. Protests were also held in the cities of Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai.

"For some reason, and I don't really know why, she got through to us," well-known columnist Nilanjana Roy wrote in a blog on Saturday.

"Our words shriveled in the face of what she'd been subjected to by the six men travelling on that bus, who spent an hour torturing and raping her, savagely beating up her male friend."

Sonia Gandhi, the powerful leader of the ruling Congress party, directly addressed the protesters in a rare broadcast on state television, saying that as a mother and a woman she understood their grievances.

"Your voice has been heard," Gandhi said. "It deepens our determination to battle the pervasive and the shameful social attitudes that allow men to rape and molest women with such impunity."

The victim and her male friend were returning home from the cinema, media reports say, six men on their bus beat them with metal rods and repeatedly raped the woman. Media said a rod was used in the rape, causing internal injuries. Both were thrown from the bus. The male friend survived.

The six suspects have all been arrested and are in custody.

The attack has put gender issues centre stage in Indian politics. Issues such as rape, dowry-related deaths and female infanticide have rarely entered mainstream political discourse.

Analysts say the death of the woman dubbed "Amanat", an Urdu word meaning "treasure," by some Indian media could change that, although it is too early to say whether the protesters calling for government action to better safeguard women can sustain their momentum through to national elections due in 2014.

The outcry over the attack caught the government off-guard and it was slow to react. It took a week for Singh to make a statement on the attack, infuriating many protesters who saw it as a sign of a government insensitive to the plight of women.

The prime minister, a stiff 80-year-old technocrat who speaks in a low monotone, has struggled to channel the popular outrage in his public statements and convince critics that his eight-year-old government will now take concrete steps to improve the safety of women.

"The Congress managers were ham-handed in their handling of the situation that arose after the brutal assault on the girl. The crowd management was poor," a lawmaker from Singh's ruling Congress party said on condition of anonymity.

Commentators and sociologists say the rape has tapped into a deep well of frustration many Indians feel over what they see as weak governance and poor leadership on social issues.

A global poll by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in June found that India was the worst place to be a woman because of high rates of infanticide, child marriage and slavery.

New Delhi has the highest number of sex crimes among India's major cities, with a rape reported on average every 18 hours, according to police figures. Government data show the number of reported rape cases in the country rose by nearly 17 percent between 2007 and 2011.

Business Pages Can Now Interact with Anyone on ... - The Next Web

Are you a business user struggling to find followers on Google+? Then read on for news that will be just up your street.?Google launched Business Pages for Google+ back in November 2011, and now the search giant has finally enabled Page users to communicate with all users on the service. Equally of note, a dedicated analytics product is coming soon to Google+ business users.

Update:?Google has confirmed the change to interactions with a statement which you can find below. The company has also said that it does not have immediate plans to introduce analytics. Since we published this story, it has altered the Web page which hinted that analytics would roll out soon.

In the past, pages ? such as TNW?s ? were unable to +1, share or comment on posts made by users that were not already circling them. Now, however, that restriction has been lifted giving businesses the freedom to engage and interact across the service.

There?s more good news for business users since Google says it will?launch an analytics product for Google+ ?in the coming weeks?, according to its?Google+ for business page:

Data trumps guessing every time. That?s why in the coming weeks we will be launching tools to give you access to as much data as possible about your Google+ page and +1 activity: who?s interacting with your page and how; your users? demographics; and info about their social activities like +1?s, shares and comments ? all to help you learn how social campaigns affect your bottom line. [Update: This text has been removed, and the link now points to a revised Google+ for businesses page which no longer contains details of the plan to introduce analytics. See Google's statement below for more.]

The move to allow greater interaction from Pages is a significant one since it will let Business Page accounts build their follower bases in a much more proactive and strategic manner. Previously, new users might circle a Business Page because they had stumbled on its content via a friend engaging with it, found it via a search or perhaps after being directed by links on a website, such as our Google+ links on thenextweb.com.

Those routes to engagement are out of a company?s direct control, but now that Pages can seek out and comment/share/+1 any user?s updates, that means the chances of striking up engagement and getting circled by new users have increased greatly. The onus is on businesses to use this new freedom responsibly and not to spam Google+ users.

We tested it out to be sure. I uncircled TNW and our Page admins were still able to comment on my post, as you can see below.

testinggplus 730x410 Google+ Pages can now interact with users who havent circled them; analytics for businesses coming soon

This change was not officially announced by Google so we reached out to the company for more details. Nonetheless, the?specifics are explained in this Google+ post from?Talking Moose Media, shared by the ever-useful Googleplusupdate account:

Google+ Pages are able to interact with personal profiles that have?NOT?circled them!

Yes! A page can now +1, share, comment and plus mention personal profiles that?have not?circled them.

Yesterday, I saw a test post by?+Denis Labelle, wondering if pages could interact with personal profiles that have not circled that page. I was able to comment on that post from my page and continued to poke around with the idea later that day and into today.

+Ronnie Bincer? and I tested it out last night and the functionality did not work. I (my page) could see the comment on his public post, but+Ronnie Bincer?could not.

As you can see, tonight my page?+Talking Moose Media?was able to comment on?+Ronnie Bincer?s post and plus mention?+Eli Fennell.

This is an exciting new feature for small to medium business owners like myself. I am hopeful that page owners will handle this new feature with care and?respect.

December has been a month of many updates for Google+.??Google introduced?Google+ communities, added?16 new features?and released an update?on the service?s overall user numbers. It says?Google+ has more than 500 million registered users, of which?235 million actively use its features (+1?ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, connecting with friends, etc) while 135 million are active in the stream only.

Update 1: Google replied to us with the following statement, confirming changes to Google+ sharing:

?We?re always experimenting with new ways to make the social experience more organic. As such, Pages are now able to comment freely on posts of interest to them. We think this provides a better sharing experience for pages and profiles alike. For example, if someone praises their favorite bakery on Google+, that baker could now say thank you to that customer, right in the stream. Or if someone posts about a customer service issue, that business could reply directly, providing a better user experience.?

Updated 2:?The company has denied it has plans to introduce analytics to Google+ business users:

?We?re always looking at ways to give businesses more insights into their online activities and continue to test new ideas, but we don?t have any details to share right now.?

Grumpy Cat! NASA Mohawk Guy! Gangnam Style! McKayla still not impressed?

KnowYourMeme

By Helen A.S. Popkin

Here?s a look at 10 memes that made our Internet year worth living.

?Grumpy Cat
Grumpy Cat was not the only fresh-faced Internet cat of 2012, but she emerges as the most memorable ? largely because she rose to Reddit fame in the fourth quarter. A former shelter cat with a 24/7 scowl, Grumpy Cat (whose real name is Tartar Sauce), appears in countless LOL-style pictures, showing her disdain for everything from the holidays ("Ho. Ho. No.") and the anticlimactic Mayan apocalypse ("Still here. Worst apocalypse ever.") to people ("There are two kinds of people in the world. And I don't like them.")

Other notable Internet cats of 2012: Colonel Meow, Henri, Le Chat Noir?and Lil Bub.

KnowYourMeme.com

NASA Mohawk Guy
As NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory team celebrated landing the Curiosity Rover on Mars, the Internet was far more intrigued by Bobak Ferdowsi, the young, handsome JPL team member with the star-spangled Mohawk hairdo.

Picking up more than 20,000 Twitter followers overnight, Ferdowski also earned the ultimate tribute, a Tumblr site featuring an ongoing supply of user-submitted LOL pictures, many with captions complimenting his cool, such as this one: "Becomes an Internet sensation ... Too busy landing a robot on Mars to notice."

Binders Full of Women Tumblr

Binders Full of Women
While the President Barack Obama-bashing "You Didn't Build That" had decent run, it was Republican candidate Mitt Romney who inspired most of the memes of the 2012 presidential election. There was "Fired Big Bird," a viral response to Romney's comment about possible budget cuts to public broadcasting. Clint Eastwood, who addressed an empty chair (meant to represent Obama) at the Republican National Convention gave us "Eastwooding" (photos of fingers pointing at chairs).

But it was "Binders Full of Women,"?inspired by Romney's comment about pay equity, that brought the meme madness. From the Trapper Keeper notebook emblazoned with the words "Trap Her Keep Her" that graced the?original?"Binders Full of Women" Tumblr?to a "Say Anything"-era John Cusack holding binders (instead of a boom box) over his head, there seemed no end to the ways the Internet could illustrated this quote ... until everyone got bored and moved on.

Texts From Hillary

Texts from Hillary
A couple news photos showing sunglasses-wearing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aboard a military C-17 aircraft and checking out her cellphone inspired two guys to launch the "Texts from Hillary" Tumblr.?

Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe manipulated the images to the max, juxtaposing photos to reveal Clinton cellphone-trolling everyone from Sarah Palin and President Barack Obama, to "Pretty Little Liars,"?a free-car offering?Oprah Winfrey and the ever-texting Jeff Winger of "Community." Our favorite remains a cross pollination of the still-hilarious Ryan Gosling "Hey Girl" Tumblr meme.

Ridiculously Photogenic Guy
Just a guy who happened to smile at a camera while running a marathon in South Carolina, Zeddie Little achieved Internet fame the way so many humans and cats do these days???via Reddit. The accidental photo bomb of Mr. Ridiculously Photogenic Guy?(as the photo was described when first posted to Reddit) became the subject of a very complimentary photo meme similar to that enjoyed by Nasa Mohawk Guy. His original picture was adorned with phrases such as "Looks into broken mirror ? fixes it" and "Photo bombs a picture ? everyone else is cropped out."

As Know Your Meme notes, "Mr. Ridiculously Photogenic Guy" inspired a number of derivatives, including "Ridiculously Photogenic Puppy," Ridiculously Photogenic Surgery Girl," and "Ridiculously Photogenic Syrian Rebel."

KnowYourMeme.com

Overly Attached Girlfriend
Unlike Mr. Ridiculously Photogenic Guy, Overly Attached Girlfriend (Laina Walker) achieved her Internet infamy kinda sorta on purpose, via her YouTube song "Boyfriend," a spoof on the Justin Bieber song "Girlfriend."

"If I was your girlfriend / I?d never let you leave / without a small recording device / taped under your sleeve," is just one line of Walker's singing satire. Of course, it helped that the screen grab that went on to become a photo meme captured Walker wide-eyed and looking a little crazy. "I sewed my name on your shirt ? in case you forgot you're taken" and "Oh, you found someone else? I'm pregnant" were two favorites.?

KnowYourMeme

The fake photos of Superstorm Sandy
In late October, as Superstorm Sandy lurched towards New York City, 10 pictures per second were being posted to Instagram with the hashtag #sandy ? mostly of people prepping for the storm or what it looked like outside. Then there were the fake Sandy photos popping up all over social media. Some tried to pass off screen grabs from "The Day After Tomorrow." Others used Photoshop to show Godzilla emerging towards the waves or a kitty-faced storm cloud looming over the Statue of Liberty, funny stuff which help?alleviate?storm-inspired stress.?

As we noted then, many of us at home had little else to do but update our social media statuses?while we still had electricity, and were grateful to those who made with the funny.?

McKayla is Not Impressed?
A momentary facial movement, frozen in time, made United States gymnast McKayla Maroney?the biggest photo bomb meme of 2012. There she was, receiving the Silver Medal at the London Olympic Games for what many said was a nearly flawless vault, arms crossed and looking ? well ? really not impressed.

Thanks to the magic of the Internet, Maroney was soon looking unimpressed with plenty of things ("Hydrox? I thought you said Oreos") and turning up in famous memes of years past ? Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Music Awards, the "Situation Room" scene when Obama, Clinton and the rest of the gang received news of the Osama bin Laden raid, and even "NASA Mohawk Guy."?For her part, Maroney took it all in stride, and recently even struck her famous pose with the President.

ERMAHGERD!
When the photo of an adolescent girl with pigtails, a retainer and books from R.L. Stein's "Goosebumps" series first hit Reddit, it wasn't immediately clear how the meme would go. The phonetic mimic of what it sounds like when you're an excited kid with a mouth full of orthodonture inspired "ERMAHGERD!" ("Oh my God!), GERSBERMS ("Goosebumps") and "BERKS! (Books!) as the meme ramped up. But in the end, the Internet favored "ERMAHGERD!" And really, can you blame us? What better word describes overwhelming excitement and joy over something you find to painfully awesome! It's especially hilarious when "said" by an animal ? at least in the ongoing photo meme.

YouTube

Gangnam Style
The first video on the Internet to be viewed more than a billion times, this K-Pop hit by Korean rapper PSY is?inarguably?the top meme of 2012. The song, the video and the crazy cowboy dance moved past the meme-makers of the Internet to achieve mainstream obsession. Even before the "Saturday Night Life" sketch (featuring a cameo by PSY), YouTube was lousy with "Gangnam Style" parodies, from the political "Mitt Romney Style" to a?baby version, a?Gangam-meets-Minecraft sendup?and even a?Brony interpretation, as well as the must-see?"Teens React"?video from viral pros the Fine Bros. And?so on.

"Gangnam Style" mania also inspired a bait-and-switch?Jar Jar Binks "Gungan Style" video from Funny or Die's Nick Wiger that borders on brilliant. If you watch it through, you're rewarded with a cold-splash-of-water interpretation of how we're spending our life on the Internet. No spoiler alert here. You've got "Gangnam Style" stuck in your head now anyway, so you might as well have a look. ??

Workers Connected To Tyson Charged With Animal Cruelty ...

Posted on: 9:01 pm, December 26, 2012, by Shain Bergan, updated on: 10:38pm, December 26, 2012

Managers at a Wyoming-based pork facility with connections to Tyson Foods have been charged with cruelty to animals, according to a news release from the Humane Society of the United States.

Tyson officials asked a subsidiary to end its business with Wyoming Premium Farms after an undercover video surfaced in May showing facility employees punching, kicking and abusing pigs.

Tyson did not buy any hogs raised on the farm for its pork-processing plants, although a subsidiary company bought animals from the facility, a Tyson official told 5NEWS.

The Platt County Attorney?s Office charged nine employees from the facility with cruelty to animals, including two managers, according to the Humane Society of the United States. An animal cruelty conviction could put offenders in prison for up to two years, coupled with a $5,000 fine.

Much of the alleged animal abuse involved breeding pigs in confined metal cages for the pigs? entire lives.

?In addition to adopting stronger protocols to deter and eliminate animal abuse at the hands of workers throughout their supply chains, Tyson, and other companies and pork industry trade associations that still contribute to this type of abuse, must develop plans to get these inhumane cages out of their operations,? states the humane society?s news release.

Tyson responded Wednesday night to the most recent development in the case, stating in an email to 5NEWS:

?We do not tolerate the mistreatment of animals by any of our suppliers. Since May, when the undercover video shot at this Wyoming farm surfaced, the supplier has been thoroughly investigated by our Office of Animal Well-Being. We were satisfied by the operator?s corrective actions, which included its work with on-site animal welfare consultants?and retraining its workforce in proper animal handling. We also understand the company made management changes and terminated some employees after its own internal investigation.

It should be noted that Tyson Foods does not purchase hogs raised on this farm for our pork processing plants. We have a small, but separate hog buying business that purchases aged sows from this farm; however, these animals are sold to other companies and are not used in Tyson?s pork processing business.?

Bumblebees do best where there is less pavement and more floral diversity

Dec. 24, 2012 ? Landscapes with large amounts of paved roads and impervious construction have lower numbers of ground-nesting bumblebees, which are important native pollinators, a study from The University of Texas at Austin and the University of California, Berkeley shows.

The study suggests that management strategies that reduce the local use of pavement and increase natural habitat within the landscape could improve nesting opportunities for wild bees and help protect food supplies around the word.

The study also suggests that increasing the number of species-rich flowering patches in suburban and urban gardens, farms and restored habitats could provide pathways for bees to forage and improve pollination services over larger areas.

The findings have major implications for global pollinator conservation on a rapidly urbanizing planet.

"We are potentially in a pollinator crisis," said Shalene Jha, lead author and assistant professor of biology at The University of Texas at Austin. "Honey bees are declining precipitously, and wild bees have also been exhibiting population declines across the globe. Native bees provide critical pollination services for fruit, nut, fiber and forage crops. Understanding how bees move around the landscape can help us both preserve biodiversity and improve crop yields."

Animal pollination is estimated to be worth over $200 billion in global crop yields.

For the research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Jha and senior author Claire Kremen, a professor at UC Berkeley's Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management, studied a native California bumblebee, Bombus vosnesenskii, in habitats across exurban areas, farms and nature reserves.

In addition to finding that pavement negatively affects the bees, the scientists discovered that:

  • Bees will move longer distances to find patches of flowers that are rich in species; it's not floral density that determines how far a bumblebee will fly, but floral diversity.
  • Bees will also forage further away from their home nest if the surrounding landscape is less heterogeneous. "In some ways, it's a bet-hedging strategy," said Jha. "If the landscape is composed of consistently dense flowering patches, bees take a risk and forage farther afield to find species-rich patches."

"In combination with earlier work showing that bumblebees have become rare in agricultural landscapes, our study suggests that farmers could promote these valuable pollinators by diversifying crop types and by planting cover crops and flowering hedgerows to enhance floral diversity," said Kremen.

Though it may seem obvious that pavement and ground nesting don't mix, Jha said that our understanding of the effects of pavement and urban growth on native bees has been largely anecdotal.

"Using genetic tools, we can now estimate the number of colonies in an area," said Jha, who began this work as a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley. "This is helping us better understand how wild pollinators live and move across large, diverse landscapes."

Bumblebees nest in the ground, and each colony contains a queen and a force of workers. As with honeybees, all of the bumblebee workers are sisters who spend some of their time flying around searching for flowers from which to collect pollen and nectar to feed the larvae back in the hive.

Unlike honeybees, which are not native, bumblebees do not make harvestable honey. They do, however, provide important pollination services to plants.

"Bumblebees are among the most effective native pollinators," said Jha. "They are large and can carry a lot of pollen. They also vibrate or 'buzz' flowers with their bodies and thus are excellent at extracting pollen and moving it from plant to plant."

To study the bumblebees, Jha did not scour the landscape for nests in the ground, which has proved in the past to be very difficult, especially over large areas. Instead, she analyzed the genetic relatedness of bees foraging in the landscape.

If bees collected in an area were genetically identified as sisters, they came from the same colony. Unrelated bees came from different colonies. Jha used this information, plus the bees' locations, to estimate the number of bee colonies in an area and determine how far afield the individual bees were foraging.

Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd), husband and wife, approach a milestone meltdown in the comedy ?This Is 40.? (Suzanne Hanover/ Universal Studios)

It?s who you know. And if it isn?t broken, don?t fix it.

In his fourth directorial endeavor, ?This Is 40,? director Judd Apatow recycles a few characters from his earlier film ?Knocked Up.? ?This Is 40? is a ?Knocked Up? sequel. It wasn?t broken and he didn?t fix it?and it works just fine.

It?s also all about who Apatow knows. Lead actress Leslie Mann is his real-life wife, and the daughters of her character Debbie are her and Apatow?s real-life kids. Paul Rudd and Jason Segel are solid members of Apatow?s repertory company of recyclable actors.

\>");

?This Is 40? is an amusing film that points out the fact that people tend to muddle through, and that everyday life goes up and down, back and forth, and round and round.

Married-with-kids couple Pete and Debbie (Rudd and Mann) are becoming middle-aged. Debbie turns 40; it?s a little traumatic for her. She insists she?s 38. She sneaks too many cigarettes. Hubby Pete sneaks too many cupcakes. Their kids squabble. Pete?s father, Larry (Albert Brooks), is a major money-moocher. Oliver (John Lithgow) is Debbie?s distant and disdainful doctor dad.

Megan Fox plays one of Debbie?s employees, who?s tattled on by another employee as stealing from the company but whose suspiciously lavish lifestyle turns out to be funded by escorting. Debbie covets her youthful employee?s flawless body (which is not the only reason Megan Fox was cast?she also has pretty flawless comedic timing).

Debbie discovers some online bullying and tongue-lashes the boy who addressed her daughter improperly, making him cry (he?s 13). Then she figures out later that he just has a schoolboy crush on her daughter.

Pete tries to keep his record label, ?Unfiltered Records,? from going under but refuses to pay attention to trends and insists on signing washed-up musical acts.

So they?ve got aging parents, money problems, kids online too much, nagging addictions, and a growing case of ?familiarity breeds contempt.? Sound familiar? It?s a slice of current American family life, as we know it.

Like most of Apatow?s movies, ?This Is 40? is quite funny. Leslie Mann is consistently the funniest, with Rudd a close second, and the eldest daughter?s preteen hysterics a close third. As in most R-rated comedies, the shock value of cursing begets a number of cheap laughs.

The one slightly disturbing scene is of the couple getting dragged into the principal?s office to face accusations by the mother of the boy Debbie harassed. Pete and Debbie take advantage of the fact that the boy?s mother (Melissa McCarthy of ?Bridesmaids?) is a little bit off, and lie their way out of trouble. They think nothing of it, as if they are entitled to pull the wool over the principal?s eyes because they?re better looking.

So what do we get? Some pretty good laughs. And an affirmation that life is messy, basically. It?s good to have a sense of humor. Life would improve if we could stop eating cupcakes, but it?s so difficult to give up cupcakes. So round and round we go.

THIS IS 40

Cast: Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Jason Segel, John Lithgow, Albert Brooks, Megan Fox, Maude Apatow, Iris Apatow

10 things you never knew about the North Pole

1 hr.

Say "North Pole" and most people think of Santa, but did you know that the region is a hotbed for international intrigue? Or that it has a special connection to the unicorn? Just in time for Christmas, here are 10 fun facts about the most mythical place on earth.

There's more to the North Pole than just snow and Santa. Ever since it was discovered by Robert E. Peary, Matthew Henson, and four Eskimo companions back in 1909, the North Pole has been a place of international intrigue???did you know several countries are now fighting over vast underground oil reserves in the Arctic Circle? You can go see for yourself with expedition voyages or even spend the night in a hotel made entirely of ice???try the IceHotel in Jukkasj?rvi, Sweden, or stay overnight at the Aurora Ice Museum in Fairbanks, Alaska, for a unique twist on the average igloo.?

Here, 10 more facts about the North Pole that may surprise you:

There are two North Poles
Unlike the South Pole, which lies over the continent of Antarctica, there is no land beneath the North Pole but more of a floating Arctic ice sheet that expands during colder months and shrinks to half its size in the summer. To complicate things even more, there are two different definitions of the North Pole. The first is the north magnetic pole, which is, quite literally, a magnetic phenomenon which changes daily depending on changes under the Earth's crust. Additionally, there is a north terrestrial pole, which is the fixed point that references the top of the Earth. Regardless of how you define the North Pole, global warming continues to be a problem here???as the polar ice caps melt, the sea levels rise, eliminating the land that polar bears and other wildlife depend on for survival.?

It's at the center of an international controversy right now
Did you know 30 percent of the world's untapped oil reserves are located in the Arctic Circle? The U.S. Geological Survey says that amount could actually be higher, since so much of the region has yet to be explored. Complicating matters is the fact that multiple countries lay claim to the Arctic Circle???Russia, Canada, Norway, Denmark (via Greenland), and the United States (via Alaska). Each country is allowed to explore potential oil reserves within 200 miles of their coastlines, but in 2007, Russia used a mini-submarine to plant the country's flag on the floor of the Arctic Ocean in an attempt to claim the region and its natural resources, a move that was rejected by the U.N. as the countries continue to work toward a solution.?

The North Pole has seasons
Just like everywhere else on Earth, the temperature varies here depending on the time of year. The North Pole is warmest in July, if by warm you mean it's actually freezing???32 degrees. If that gives you the shivers, brace yourself. Temperatures in February drop to a bone-chilling 31 degrees below zero. The amount of light each day depends on the time of year, too. Alaska as well as Norway and the other Arctic Circle countries each face six months of broad daylight and six months of almost total darkness because of the angle at which this top portion of the Earth receives sunlight.?

More from Budget Travel:

Yet, it is not the coldest place in the world
It might come as a shock, but even with temperatures with a high of just 32 degrees, the North Pole is not the coldest place on Earth. The South Pole is (in winter temperatures average -76 degrees F). Unlike the North Pole, the South Pole sits on top of a thick sheet of ice, which in turn sits on top of a piece of land???Antarctica. At more than 9,000 feet above sea level, Antarctica is also the world's tallest continent. The North Pole, on the other hand, is made up of a thin Arctic ice sheet that sits barely a foot above sea level???a fact that allows the landscape to absorb heat from the surrounding Arctic Ocean.?

There is life up there
While the conditions may be considered too tough for most humans, there are native Inuit tribes living in northern Canada and Alaska. The outer reaches of the Arctic Circle are a great place to see polar bears in the wild. Keep an eye out for other Arctic dwellers like Orca, Humpback, and Beluga whales, the arctic fox, and Svalbard reindeer. This isn't the only place to see reindeer in the world; a reindeer herd in the U.K. inhabits the Cairngorm Mountains of northern Scotland. One animal you won't see in the North Pole is the penguin. They live in the South Pole. Several species of flying penguin-like birds called auks, guillemots, and puffins can be seen in the Arctic Circle, though.?

Santa Claus is not the only legendary character in the North Pole
Did you know that the creature that inspired myths about unicorns comes from the North Pole? The narwhal, a small whale that lives in the chilly waters of the Arctic Circle, has a six-to-10-foot long tusk, a trait that earned it the nickname "unicorn of the sea." Back in the 16th century, they were often believed to possess magical powers that could be used to cure diseases. Demand was high, and legend has it that Queen Elizabeth I shelled out 10,000 pounds to get her hands on her very own narwhal tusk. Nowadays, narwhal populations are on the decline, due to hunting (Inuit peoples use the meat, tusks, and vitamin-C-rich skin in their everyday lives), climate change, and fishing for halibut, their main source of food.?

Santa's magical workshop isn't in the North Pole proper???but it is nearby
Shh! Don't tell the kids, but Santa's Workshop isn't really in the North Pole???it's in Finnish Lapland. You can visit Santa Claus Village in the Finnish town of Rovaniemi year round, send letters to and from his post office (they'll bear the official postmark of the Arctic Circle), and spend time exploring Santa Park, a series of Christmas-themed caves where you can meet jolly old St. Nick and his elves. You can even visit Santa's reindeer at the onsite Sirmakko Reindeer Family Farm. If Finnish Lapland seems a little out of reach, Santa also has a satellite workshop in the holiday-themed town of North Pole, Alaska where the streets have names like Kris Kringle, Mistletoe, Donner, and Blitzen.

If you would rather write to Santa than visit his workshops, the U.S. Postal Service will postmark letters from Santa Claus as long as they are received by December 10th each year. Simply mail your letters to North Pole Postmark Postmaster, 41-41 Postmark Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99530 with "Santa, North Pole" marked as the return address. If time is of the essence, you can always email Santa??he'll answer it right away. On Christmas Eve, use the Santa Tracker North Pole Command Center app ($1.99) to keep an eye on Santa's progress.?

You can vacation there
While not exactly a budget destination, you can embark on your own Arctic adventure. Quark Expeditions offers a wide variety of cruising expeditions ranging from the Spitsbergen Explorer, an 11-day cruise around the Norwegian island (from $4,995 per person) to The Ultimate Arctic Adventure, which sails from Russia to the 90-degree north spot that represents the North Pole, visits Franz Josef Land, and tours the Arctic Ocean (from $23,995 per person). Go from June to mid-July to see the polar bears and walrus hunting in their own natural habitat, from mid-July to mid-August to see flowers and other arctic flora in bloom, or from mid-August to September as birds begin to migrate South.

There?are hot springs up there
If you are in the frigid Arctic Circle, you'll need to find a way to warm up.?Chena Hot Springs, located about an hour outside Fairbanks has a natural geothermal hot spring in a rock lake surrounded by nature. The hot springs are open from 7 a.m. to midnight, giving you plenty of time to soak and get a front row seat for the Aurora Borealis (best viewed between August and May). You can also stay at the Chena Hot Springs Resort ($65 a night to room in a Mongolia-style yurt, or stay in a room at the resort for from $189 a night). A number of hot springs can also be found in Norway's Svalbard Islands, in Iceland (the Landmannalaugar Hot Springs is well-known), and in Russia??? Scientific American profiled the hot springs in Oymyakon, Siberia, the coldest town on Earth.?

There is a North Pole marathon every year
The North Pole Marathon bills itself as the World's Coolest Marathon, and with an average wind chill temperature of 22 degrees below zero, they'd be right. It's happened every year since 2002???in 2011, 255 people from 38 nations around the world braved the conditions to compete in the 26.2-mile marathon race on top of a floating Arctic ice shelf. Competitors are transported to an international North Pole Camp on the polar ice shelf to start the race. And they layer up-thermal layers, windproof pants, gloves, two pairs of socks, and even goggles are necessary. The next North Pole Marathon takes place on April 9, 2013, and costs a pretty penny???about $15,561 for the entry fee that includes accommodations in Spitsbergen, Greenland, before and after the race, flights to and from the North Pole Camp, helicopter flights within the polar region, medals, and a commemorative DVD of the race. But the bragging rights are priceless.

California teacher cashes in on cousin?s $7.4m gold coin collection

CARSON CITY, NEV. Walter Samaszko Jr. was a loner whose death went largely unnoticed. That all changed when a crew sent to clean out his house found a fortune stashed away in the garage of his modest ranch-style home.

There were ammunition boxes stuffed with thousands of gold coins, from Austria, Mexico and the United States. There was enough gold to fill up two wheelbarrows ? more than $7.4 million worth.

?There was every kind of coin you could think of,? said Alan Glover, the Carson City clerk and the public administrator of the estate who borrowed a neighbour?s wheelbarrow to haul the treasure out.

City officials searched through records to find an heir: a substitute teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area who a judge declared Tuesday was Samaszko?s lone surviving first cousin.

The decision means Arlene Magdanz of San Rafael, Calif., is a millionaire. She didn?t attend the hearing and, so far, has not said anything publicly about her new-found fortune.

Samaszko?s body was found in June after neighbours called authorities, though it was not clear what prompted them to do so. He had been dead of heart problems for at least a month, according to the coroner.

His bank account stood at $1,200.

There were more than 2,900 Austrian coins, many from 1915; 4,500 from Mexico; 500 from Britain; 300 U.S. gold pieces, some dating to 1880; and more than 100 U.S. gold pieces as old as the 1890s. They were stored mostly in ammo boxes stacked on top of each other.

The Green Revolution is wilting

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

The Green Revolution has stagnated for key food crops in many regions of the world, according to a study published in the Dec. 18 issue of Nature Communications by scientists with the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment and McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Led by IonE research fellow Deepak Ray, the study team developed geographically detailed maps of annual crop harvested areas and yields of maize (corn), rice, wheat and soybeans from 1961 to 2008. It found that although virtually all regions showed a yield increase sometime during that period, in 24 to 39 percent of the harvested areas (depending on the crop) yield plateaued or outright declined in recent years. Among the top crop-producing nations, vast areas of two of the most populous ? China and India ? are witnessing especially concerning stagnation or decline in yield.

"This study clearly delineates areas where yields for important food crops are stagnating, declining, or never improved, as well areas where yields are still rapidly improving," Ray says. "As a result, it both sounds the alert for where we must shift our course if we are to feed a growing population in the decades to come, and points to positive examples to emulate."

Interestingly, the researchers found that yields of wheat and rice ? two crops that are largely used as food crops, and which supply roughly half of the world's dietary calories ? are declining across a higher percentage of cropland than those of corn and soybean, which are used largely to produce meat or biofuels.

"This finding is particularly troubling because it suggests that we have preferentially focused our crop improvement efforts on feeding animals and cars, as we have largely ignored investments in wheat and rice, crops that feed people and are the basis of food security in much of the world," said study co-author and IonE director Jonathan Foley, professor and McKnight Presidential Chair in the College of Biological Sciences. "How can we meet the growing needs of feeding people in the future if one-third of our cropland areas, in our most important crops, are not improving in yield any more?"

The paper suggests two actions based on its findings. First, it recommends working to maintain the positive trajectory for the 61 to 76 percent of croplands where yield is still climbing. Second, it encourages crop-producing regions around the world to look at their yield trends and those of others to identify what's working and what might be improved.

"Previous research suggests that many factors work together to limit yield growth, from cultivation practices to pests to a need for improved seeds," Ray said. "What this paper does is provide concrete, detailed information policy makers can use to identify regions where yield growth has stagnated or reversed, figure out what limiting factors are at play, then work to turn that trend around."

Obama to task Biden to tackle gun violence

As funerals are held for four more Sandy Hook Elementary victims, President Obama will announce that Vice President Biden will spearhead a panel to formulate gun policies in the aftermath of the Newtown tragedy. NBC's Craig Melvin reports.

By The Associated Press

President Barack Obama is launching an administration-wide effort to curb gun violence, underscoring the growing political consensus over tightening gun restrictions following the horrific elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

Obama is tasking Vice President Joe Biden, a longtime gun control advocate, with spearheading the effort.

In remarks from the White House on Wednesday, Obama will outline a process for pursuing policy changes following the school shooting, though he is not expected to call for specific measures.

Hunter Martin / Getty Images, file

The president has vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to safeguard the nation's children after Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn.

Twenty children and six adults were killed at the school by a gunman carrying an arsenal of ammunition and a high-powered, military-style rifle.

NBC's Tom Brokaw discusses what kind of scar the Newtown tragedy leaves on the nation and whether this massacre will be the tipping point in the gun control debate. ?

Sending 'sympathy and love': Newtown's agony echoes in Scottish town

The incident has prompted several congressional gun rights supporters to consider new legislation to control firearms.

Many pro-gun lawmakers also have called for a greater focus on mental health issues and the impact of violent entertainment.

Obama also prefers a holistic approach, with aides saying stricter gun laws alone are not the answer.

The Daily Rundown's Chuck Todd discusses the difficulties of implementing gun control laws with Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia.

Hero teacher Victoria Soto to be buried: 'She loved those students more than anything'

"It's a complex problem that requires more than one solution," White House spokesman Jay Carney said Tuesday. "It calls for not only re-examining our gun laws and how well we enforce them, but also for engaging mental health professionals, law enforcement officials, educators, parents and communities to find those solutions."

Still, much of the immediate focus after the shooting is on gun control, an issue that has been dormant in Washington for years. Obama expended little political capital on gun issues during his first term, despite several mass shootings, including a movie theater attack in Aurora, Colo., in the midst of this year's presidential campaign.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., shares her reaction to the mass shooting in Newtown and talks about the future of gun control legislation in Washington, D.C.

Obama's push on gun violence begins to take shape

The White House has begun to signal that Obama may be more proactive on gun issues following the murders of the elementary school youngsters, ages 6 and 7.

Carney said Obama was "actively supportive" of legislation to reinstate a ban on assault-style weapons that expired in 2004.

The president long has supported a ban, but exerted little effort to get it passed during his first term.

Obama also would support closing a gun-show loophole allowing people to buy arms from private dealers without background checks and would be interested in legislation limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines, Carney said.?

New wholesaler champions best of British - The Drinks Business

jubileeThe British Alcohol Retailer aims to supply venues with a range of British ales, wines and spirits, building on the ?revived patriotism? that has been generated by recent celebrations such as the Olympics, Jubilee and royal wedding,

BAR director Poppy Clarkson suggested that her venture would support a logical progression of UK consumers? growing interest in high quality, domestically produced goods.

?We have been credibly sourcing food locally for well over a decade now while at the same time becoming know globally as a gastronomic capital,? she explained, adding: ?from a drinks perspective, that change is on the cusp of happening,?

In addition to highlighting recent successes for English wine in international tastings, Clarkson observed: ?There has been a real ale revolution with?divine?craft beers drawing in new types of customers all the time and being perfectly aligned to pair with food. Similarly in the spirits industry, she noted: ?The trend for pot still and flavour differentiating?artisan?spirits has swept the capital.?

Acknowledging the pressures currently facing the UK?s drinks wholesalers, which this year alone saw the collapse of WaverleyTBS and Bibendum forced to make three directors redundant, Clarkson nevertheless emphasised the opportunities within the high quality events sector.

?The events industry growth has been?phenomenal?over the past decade and?that?s?not set to change any time soon, despite?turbulent?economic times,? she maintained. ?Our focus is the premium end of the market where there has been far less of an impact due to the recession.?

With a list that currently features 10 UK wine producers, 16 breweries and seven ?boutique? distillers, Clarkson noted: ?All the products are award winners,? as she stressed: ?We have also chosen the products that allow us to be competitive with premium quality imports and bigger brand names.?

Having built up its product list, BAR now plans to begin trading in early 2013. ?Our focus to date has been getting out and meeting with each producer and getting to know what they are creating and why; I want to do the same with our customers,? said Clarkson.

After prolonged absence, NRA restores its Facebook page

2 hrs.

The National Rifle Association wants you to "like" them again, and has re-posted its Facebook page, which it took down after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

The page reappeared Tuesday, with a message from gun lobby, which has been noticeably silent since the shootings. The NRA also posted a similar statement on its Twitter page, which had been inactive since before the shootings Friday.

The group said on its Facebook page that "out of respect?for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting."

The NRA is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters???and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. ... The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

A press conference is planned for Friday, the NRA also announced Tuesday.

In recent days, only?a Facebook page for the NRA?blog remained?posted. The last item shared?at 6:30 a.m. Friday (before the school?shootings)?was?about the "Friends of NRA" TV show that will start a third season soon.

The blog is described as being an "official?inside look at the NRA's Programs including Shooting Championships, National Firearms Museum, Law Enforcement Division, Education & Training and more." (The NRA's Web blog is here.)

On Twitter, Friday had been?the last day the NRA tweeted, at 6:36 a.m.: "10 Days of NRA Giveaways???Enter today for a chance to win an auto emergency tool!"

The day before, Dec. 13, on Twitter, the NRA said: "Did you hear? Our #facebook page reached 1.7 million 'likes'?today! Thanks for being a friend!" and this photo was posted by the organization:

But those 1.7 million likes, tied to the NRA's main Facebook page, could not be?seen as of Monday.

NBC News contacted the NRA for comment about its Facebook page removal, and will update this post if we hear back.

It it does not appear that?Facebook?itself took any action, one way or another, regarding the NRA page. When asked, a?Facebook spokesperson told NBC News the social network had no?comment.?

NBC?News' Josh Belzman also contributed to this report,?which was updated at 5:30 p.m. ET Tuesday.

How to Burn Fat with Fat

In the past, fat has been badly rapped in most discussions about weight loss. More and more people struggle with burning fat. It is a common belief that fatty foods can cause weight gain. This is why some weight loss dietary plans eliminate fatty foods such as French fries, pizza, hamburgers and others.

These fatty foods according to research can increase the level of LDL cholesterol which is not good to health. However, recent studies on fatty food have shown that all fatty foods are not bad. All fatty foods are not created equally. What makes the difference is the nutritional content of the fatty foods you are eating. There are some that are good to health and helpful in weight loss. If you want to lose weight without putting a total stop to fatty food, your fat intake should be more of unsaturated fats such as monounsaturated fat and polyunsaturated fats.

Sources of these types of fats include seeds, fish, nuts, olive oil, leafy vegetables, avocados and others. These foods contain a lot of nutrients required for the proper functioning of the body. You can burn down excess fat without reducing your calorie intake by consuming unsaturated fat.

According a study published in 2009 British Journal of Nutrition, participants that were fed with most unsaturated fats have less abdominal fat and lower body mass than the participants whose intake of unsaturated fat was limited. The reason for this is because the quality of the former is higher than the later. Besides, unsaturated fats get rid of bad cholesterol from the arteries. This helps to enhance proper circulation of blood in the body.

It also enhances the function of the heart. Fat provides more energy to the body than protein and carbohydrate. If you are not eating enough fatty foods, you are therefore depriving your body of the energy it needs for the proper functioning of its metabolic process. Fats are like fuel with which the body burns down calories for the release of energy to the body. If your body metabolism is functioning very well, you will lose extra fat.

This is because it is during this process that excess fat is burnt down for the release of energy. Washington University School of Medicine researchers have proved that old fat stored in the peripheral tissue of the body around the thighs, belly and butt cannot be broken down properly if there are no new fat to facilitate the process.

This is because dietary fat activates the fat-burning pathways through the liver and PPAR-alpha. This will help to burn down the old fats. The digestion of fats takes longer than that of other food substances. The implication of this is that you will be full for a long time. This will reduce your cravings for food.

From the above, it is evidently clear that you can achieve weight loss easily by consuming fatty food. However, you should mind the type of fatty foods that you eat. It is not all fats that are good to the body. Saturated fats can increase the level of the LDL cholesterol in the body while the reverse can be said of unsaturated food.
