MONTESSORIMUM.COM ? >Stationary & Craft Supplies

Dec 15 2012

Hits for this post:16

Having three school going kids at home and one of them who is really into art and craft, my house has a mini collection of stationary and craft supplies. In fact it is like a mini stationary and craft supply shop. We have all sort of pencils , erasers, various sizes of tapes and even labels from rectangular to circle labels, we have different sizes of scissors and so many more. When we were away from home, staying with daddy in his rented apartment, we felt so handicap without these supply as we got so bored at home and they kids can?t do their art and craft to kill time.

Welcoming new co-workers ? Business Management Daily: Free ...

The first week at a new job can be stressful. There are so many new people to meet, passwords to memorize and new software systems to learn. How can you make that onboarding process more welcoming?

That?s what one reader asked recently on the Admin Pro Forum: ?My worst fear whenever we hire a new person is that he or she will work here for a few days but decide not to stay?sometimes people just don?t get a great first impression of a job, its workload, or particular people. What can we do to make the first week of work rewarding and even fun for a newbie??

Admins shared their favorite tips for addressing this common concern.

First, make a personal connection. ?I try to make sure that the most jovial person in the office has direct contact with a new employee,? Holly wrote. ?I?ve also suggested a program where someone is assigned directly to take the person out to lunch and talk about work in nontraining mode, just giving them the lay of the land and basically being a ?designated pal? for a few days.?

Second, avoid information overload. Another reader, Mark, asked a relatively new employee at his organization what they could have done to make his first week more rewarding. His response: ?Not have so much reading be part of orientation. It?s boring, and it?s too much information at the start.?

Another reader, Sharon, echoed that advice. ?First of all, teach the person one function at a time. Let him do that job a few times and get the hang of it before adding the next job. ? Provide a notebook and pen to write down step-by-step directions to be followed until the process is memorized.?

She suggested a similarly measured pace with socializing. ?Don?t introduce the entire staff at once, don?t get into private jokes,? she wrote. ?Perhaps ask a different person to eat lunch with him each day the first week, not a crowd. People need to feel comfortable and part of the team.?

If this seems like a lot of work, consider the effort it will take to replace the person if she doesn?t stick around. ?The more welcoming you are and the more you keep the lines of communication open, the better their experience and the more likely they are to stick around,? wrote Amy.

Banks fend off attacks designed to disrupt online banking access

BOSTON/CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Reuters) - Bank of America Corp, JPMorgan Chase & Co and U.S. Bancorp and other major U.S. banks seem to have stopped a group of hacker activists from seriously disrupting their online banking operations.

A financial services industry organization and several cyber security companies said a group of "hactivists" that impeded access to some major U.S. online banking sites in September had so far failed to gain traction in a second campaign that began this week.

"There has been no impact to critical financial systems," the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, or FS-ISAC, said in a statement.

Tom Kellermann, vice president of cyber security at security software maker Trend Micro Inc, said the banks had been "very successful.

"I wouldn't see any prolonged outages for the major financial institutions in the coming year."

Arbor Networks, which sells equipment that companies can use to protect their websites against attack, said banks had bolstered their defenses since the last round of attacks in September.

"Everyone has been through this once or twice," said Dan Holden, an Arbor director. "There is just a better level of preparedness."

On Monday, a group that calls itself the Qassam Cyber Fighters said on a website called Pastebin.com that it was planning attacks against a group of five banks that also included PNC Financial Services Group Inc and SunTrust Banks Inc. The same group took credit for the disruptions in September.

U.S. Bancorp spokesman Tom Joyce said the regional bank's website was performing well, but some customers might be experiencing intermittent delays. "We can assure customers that their data and funds are secure," he said.

PNC said its website had unusually heavy traffic in the past several days, causing occasional difficulties in accessing it. Bank of America said it was monitoring its systems, which were operational.

SunTrust and JPMorgan declined to comment.

Donaldson & Guin Investigates St. Jude Medical, Inc.

| Source: Donaldson & Guin, LLC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Dec. 14, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The law firm of DONALDSON & GUIN, LLC is investigating St. Jude Medical, Inc. ("St. Jude") for potential securities law violations following its disclosure of the FDA's potential advisory action and inspection of St. Jude's manufacturing facility that produces its Durata lead wires. St. Jude develops, manufactures and markets defibrillator systems which rely on insulated lead wires, including "Durata"-branded wires.

According to Donaldson & Guin, LLC law partner, Tammy Stokes, "We believe that the Durata leads made up a material portion of St. Jude's business and that the FDA appears to be targeting St. Jude for concerns relating to the design, production and quality control of the Durata lead manufacturing process. If the company failed to disclose this information to its investors, those investors may have valuable claims against the company or certain of its officers and directors for violating federal securities laws."

A class action has been filed in federal court in Minnesota on behalf of anyone who bought St. Jude securities between October 19, 2011 and November 20, 2012, inclusive (the "Class Period"). By law, anyone who bought St. Jude securities during the Class Period has until February 5, 2013 to ask the court to name them the lead plaintiff for the lawsuit. Although an investor does not have to be named a lead plaintiff to participate in a securities class action, the lead plaintiff has more power to control the litigation and the lawyers representing the investors.

St. Jude investors who experienced large losses and who are interested in serving as lead plaintiffs for this class action lawsuit are encouraged to contact Tammy Stokes of Donaldson & Guin by email at tstokes@dglawfirm.com or telephone at 205-503-4512 to discuss their legal rights and options.

The law firm of Donaldson & Guin, LLC, with offices in Chicago and Birmingham, represents individuals, businesses and institutional investors in complex financial litigation, including securities, antitrust and similar litigation. Somali rebels: Up to $8K to kill Kenyan forces

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) ? A Kenyan official says a message intercepted from the Somali Islamist extremist group al-Shabab shows that rebels are being offered up to $8,000 to kill Kenyan security officers.

Garissa County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed said Thursday the rewards are enough incentive to motivate some youths in the eastern Kenyan county to carry out attacks against Kenyan army and police. The pay by al-Shabab varies with the security officer's rank.

Mohammed said local Somalis are responsible for recent attacks on Kenyan security forces that have caused the deaths of 10 police and four soldiers in northeastern Kenya. Kenya has experienced a string of gun and grenade attacks since it sent troops into Somalia to pursue al-Shabab rebels.

An army sergeant on vacation was shot dead Sunday in Garissa by a lone gunman.

U.S. stocks seen nearing all-time high in 2013: Reuters poll

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The S&P 500 may end 2013 within a stone's throw of its all-time intraday high hit in 2007 on the back of an improved outlook for global growth and with an end to uncertainty surrounding the U.S. "fiscal cliff", according to a Reuters poll.

A major relief for the stock market would be the resolution of the fiscal cliff, nearly $600 billion of tax increases and spending cuts that are set to take effect in January and which could threaten to bring on a new recession.

The median forecast for the S&P 500 <.inx><.spx> by end of 2013 was 1,550, according to 47 respondents surveyed in the latest Reuters poll of equity strategists. That is just off the index's all-time intraday high of 1,576.09 on October 11, 2007.

By mid-2013, the S&P 500 is seen rising to 1,500, for a roughly 5 percent increase from Wednesday's close of 1428.48.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.dji> is seen rising to 14,150 by end of 2013, climbing above 14,000 for the first time since 2007. By mid-2013, the blue chip index is seen rising to 13,631, up almost 3 percent from Wednesday's close of 13245.45.

"This time last year, the risks to global growth were to the downside as the European debt crisis, China hard landing fears and the U.S. 'fiscal cliff' clouded the economic outlook," said Michael Hartnett, chief investment strategist at BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research.

"For 2013, we expect the resolution of fiscal policy issues, another year of accommodative central bank actions and improving corporate profits to skew the macro and market risks to the upside."

BofA-ML expects the S&P 500 to hit 1,600 by end-2013.

The S&P 500 has retraced all of its losses since the U.S. presidential election. Some of the gains reflect market confidence that Democrats and Republicans will eventually agree on at least a short-term deal to avoid the cliff.

Despite the resolution, many investors believe there is still a lot of work to be done in the first half of 2013. Taxes are almost certain to rise, and businesses have been less optimistic than the consumer of late due to fiscal uncertainty.

"We're going to struggle to get returns in the first half of the year, essentially taking a step back before we take a step forward as growth begins kicking in around the second half of the year," said Paul Nolte, managing director at Dearborn Partners in Chicago, whose year-end target on the S&P 500 for 2013 was 1,600.

"Trading will be volatile, even after we get the 'fiscal cliff' resolved. Right now companies are trying to figure out what the rules of the road are."

Some were more cautious. Washington in the past has taken the markets to the brink, with the debt ceiling fight in 2011 and the initial failure of a bill to aid banks in 2008 roiling stocks. If lawmakers agree to shift certain questions into 2013, that could leave investors unsettled.

"While not our base case, we believe that stocks could rise substantially if U.S. policymakers can negotiate a 'grand bargain' that credibly addresses long-term tax, spending, and entitlement reforms," said Jonathan Golub, strategist at UBS, whose target on the S&P 500 for end-2013 was just 1,425.

"Unfortunately, our sense is that the most important structural issues will be pushed off into the future, leaving significant uncertainty about the long-term direction of the economy and corporate profits."

For the year, the S&P 500 has gained almost 14 percent, the Dow is up over 8 percent and the Nasdaq has risen close to 16 percent, as of Wednesday's close.
