University of Florida - Gators Football

Gators Fans OnlyThe Florida Gators have been officially competing in football since 1906. The Gators play their home football games at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field located in Gainesville, Florida. Many Florida Gators fans often refer to the stadium as "The Swamp," which was a nickname given to the stadium in the early 90's.

The Gators are a member of the eastern division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The SEC is one of the most dominant conferences in college football, with SEC teams winning the last 6 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championships. Teams from the SEC are the only teams to win a National Championship since the inception of the current BCS system.

The Gators have had 23 different coaches in team history. The current head coach is Will Muschamp. Other notable Gators coaches include Steve Spurrier, the current head coach for the University of South Carolina, and Urban Meyer, the current head coach for the Ohio State University.

Some of the Gators most notable rivals are Tennessee and Georgia, and non-conference rival Florida State. The Gators football team has won 3 national championships and 8 SEC championships.
